His First Born Son

AND there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:8-11)

The prophesied birth of the only Begotten Son of God was not an event of singular significance. It represented the new birth of millions from Abraham to those of us today who are privileged to be called the sons and daughters of God.

On that frigid night in Bethlehem, all who claimed descent from David were present to conform to the order of Augustus Caesar to be enrolled for the tax. Neither did Augustus nor Cyrenius, governor of Syria, know the cardinal reason for all who claimed Bethlehem as his own city to come to the city at this exact time; they considered it an act of expedient government, but God considered it an essential requirement for His Son Jesus to fulfill the prophesy of the place of His birth. It was for this reason that many flocked to the little hamlet of Bethlehem at this time, including Mary and Joseph, and there was no room for them in the inns of Bethlehem.

In the Father’s discretion, His Son would be born under the simplest of provisions – the austere surroundings of a stable. There was no room for us because of our own sins and shortcomings, but for Him who was innocence incarnated, it was a necessity of God’s own ordained will.

The birth of Christ has led to our own rebirth into newness of life through the grace and mercy of God the Father realized in the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ was the First Born of all Creation, and literally the new birth of the church itself. 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:12-18)

As mortal men and women, we all face the first death in the flesh, but those who are the elect of God, the second death has no power. Our lives begin and are continued in eternity in Christ. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3) He is our Maker and the Head of the Church. The Church adheres to that great text given in Isaiah: 5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. * 6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God. 7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. 8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. (Isaiah 54:5-8)

The Spirit of Christ at Christmas reveals a great mystery – not so much the mystery of His Virgin Birth, though that is a great mystery. Not so much the Star that heralded His birth. The greater mystery is the Love of God expressed in the gift of His only Begotten Son to a sin-weary world of darkness and depravity. How could His love embrace such vile sinners as we all were ere He forgave and pardoned us?

I pray every reader of this letter will keep Christmas all year round. It is no sin to sing even Christmas carols in July, for Christ is coming a second time, and that Spirit of His Coming shall lift our hearts and hopes forever in the promise.

Fourth Sunday in Advent

Sunday was the Fourth Sunday in Advent, the period including the four Sundays before Christmas; the first Sunday of which is always the nearest Sunday to the feast of St. Andrew (30 November). Advent is a season of preparation and penitence. We prepare ourselves to celebrate the coming of Jesus at Christmas, but we also look forward to his second coming. The liturgical color for this season is purple reminding us of the Kingship of Jesus and that Advent is also a season of penitential preparation.

Propers

Each Sunday there are Propers: special prayers and readings from the Bible. There is a Collect for the Day; that is a single thought prayer, most written either before the re-founding of the Church of England in the 1540s or written by Bishop Thomas Cranmer, the first Archbishop of Canterbury after the re-founding.

The Anglican Church, being founded on the principal of one nation, one church, holds patriotism and true love of country in great regard. It is quite interesting the majority of the Founding Fathers were members of the Church of England and transferred their national church identity to what became the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States. Like Henry VIII and Thomas Cranmer, they saw the need for a national church. Not a captive arm of the government, but a link to God for the people of the nation.

The Collect for the Day is to be read on Sunday and during Morning and Evening Prayer until the next Sunday. The Epistle is normally a reading from one of the various Epistles, or letters, in the New Testament. The Gospel is a reading from one of the Holy Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The Collect is said by the minister as a prayer, the Epistle can be read by either a designated reader (as we do in our church) or by one of the ministers and the Holy Gospel, which during the service in our church is read by the minister or in the case of Morning or Evening Prayer without a minister by the senior member present.

The propers are the same each year, except if a Red Letter Feast, that is one with propers in the prayerbook, falls on a Sunday, then those propers are to be read instead, except in a White Season, where it is put off. Red Letter Feasts, so called because in the Altar Prayerbooks the titles are in red, are special days. Most of the Red Letter Feasts are dedicated to early saints instrumental in the development of the church, others to special events. Some days are particularly special and the Collect for that day is to be used for an octave (eight days) or an entire season, like Advent or Lent.

LMIGHTY God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen.

¶ This Collect is to be repeated every day, after the other Collects in Advent, until Christmas Day.

The Epistle for today came from Paul’s first letter to the Philippians, starting at the Fourth Verse of the Fourth Chapter.

Paul calls on us to “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” We are to lead the world to Christ by example, to “Let (y)our moderation be known unto all men.” In this Advent season, as always, “The Lord is at hand.” We are to worry about nothing, “but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Be joyful in all things, not for all things. And in the words we find at the end of the Holy Communion Service, may “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Or to quote another, “Trust in God and Dread Naught.”

Today’s Holy Gospel came from the Gospel according to Saint John, the First Chapter, beginning at the Nineteenth Verse. When they heard rumor of John the Baptist, Jews wondering if this might be the Messiah, sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who art thou?” John told them, “I am not the Christ.” Then, they cast about for who he might be, ”Art thou Elias?”

Confounded, they asked, “Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?” He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.” The Pharisees people were somewhat confused and asked, “Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?” John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.”

Interestingly, the same theme is found over and over, as is oft the case with truth. There are those among us who just plain will not see. For, there are none so deaf as those who will not hear and none so blind as those who will not see.

The Fourth Sunday in Advent

The Collect.

E said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. (John 1:23)

The previous three Sundays have been days of preparation for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ:

Duty to prepare;
Preparation by the Word (Holy Bible);
Preparation by the Church and ministry.

We now come to the final Advent Sunday just moments before the actual Incarnation of Christ at Bethlehem – the preparation by Christ Himself. Each step of the Advent Season has taken us more and more deeply into the glorious Truth of His coming – now the crucial dye is cast! It is the realization of the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 – Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1:23) It is our Lord’s abiding Presence that is the fulfillment of every prophecy of His coming from Genesis 3:16 to our leading text of John 1:23

Christ brings joy into a world that could never have known true joy otherwise amidst its darkness and dread of sin and hurt. In the Epistle for the day taken from Philippians 4:4, Paul counsels us to “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” Just the thought of His soon appearing should send billows of joy and glee through our souls.

The coming of Christ compels moderation in all things among His people. Let the world know to whom we belong in Christ. Our outward conduct should reflect that inward grace that His Presence instills. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. (Phil 4:5)

The coming of Christ is a time of freedom from the fears and cares of the world. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Phil 4:6) This is not referring to observance of caution, but to not allowing our cares to burden our souls. Those burdens are removed by prayer and thanksgiving. The Lord will be our burden-bearer if we have an assurance of our salvation in Him. How shall we attain such a comfort and inner peace? And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:7)

The Promise of His coming is an inner peace that is not subject to the tides and turmoil of the outside world. Our hearts should be set on the beautiful things of His Creation – His beauty of art, His beauty of truth, and His beauty of the new creature which is the making of His redemption of His chosen.

Just as John the Baptist came preparing the way for Christ by his preaching, we, too, as ministers of God, have a solemn responsibility to preach Christ and Him crucified! This is preparing the hearts of His elect for =His second Advent that is every whit as certain as the first. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. (John 1:6-7)

When we read and absorb the words of the Prayer of Collect, we observe three great truths:

The Source of Power which is in Christ Jesus;
Our need of power to persevere until the end in grace and mercy. We need this power to deliver us from the wiles of the devil and the temptations of the flesh.
His unseen Presence alone can instill that power over sin in accepting His first Advent and preparing for His second Advent.

Our plea must reside in His conveyance of power to us to obtain remission of sin so that we may thereby be made partakers of the Kingdom of Heaven and the atonement made by Christ for both grace and mercy – a status which we can neither merit, not achieve, through works of our own hands.

Good morning! I hope you are all doing well. In today’s sermon we will be looking at the unifying message of the Collect, Epistle and Gospel and examine how they share a common message as we complete the period of preparation for the coming of our Lord and Savior. Let us start by reading today’s collect:

The Collect.

As is oft the case, today’s propers all tie together to reinforce a point and build our understanding of what God wants and expects from each of us. The Collect asks for God’s help for us to accept His Help and do it His Way. We are asking for this because of our natural infirmities. By natural infirmities, I mean our sins. Our natural infirmities do in fact handicap us from running the race of life that is set before us. We are asking for His Help in removing that handicap of our infirmities, of our needless worries and sinful behavior that only hurts us, that we might be able to run ably and swiftly the race of life.

This is a thought that is constantly resonating throughout the Collects and not only them but all of Scriptures. That is because it is a constant truth that without the help of the Lord, we are doomed to fail to follow Him. We need His Help if we are to succeed in the race of life! This truth is constant through history. Whenever a group of people have strayed from doing what God asks, they have never prospered in the end. And groupsof people will always stray from doing what God asks as that is in our nature. We need God’s help to fight our nature and to do what He asks of us. From the very beginning of time to the very end of time this will always stay true. That is why we must continually rely on Scripture and the Holy Ghost for inspiration and guidance and comfort in our lives.

It is oft supposed Christians are dour souls, with no sense of happiness or humor. Perhaps this thought comes from those who have heard from others what the Bible says, but have never actually taken the time to read it and understand it. This is unfortunately a very common misconception these days. For if they understood it then they would not be thinking that we are dour at all! Reading the Bible as a whole proves this often popular train of thought to be patently false. That may or may not have been the way the Puritans thought, but then again, the Puritans were not holding to the consistent truth of the Bible. After all God commands us to make a “joyful” noise unto the Lord! Not, a dour, grumbling and solemn noise, but an exceedingly JOYFUL noise unto the Lord! There is nothing in the Bible that says you cannot have fun whilst worshipping our Lord; in fact that is the preferred way to worship Him! If we enjoy worshipping the Lord, then we are most apt to do more of our best to follow Him, if we are enjoying ourselves whilst doing so!

After all, the one said to be the most dour of all, Paul, tells us to be happy. In his Epistle he mentioned rejoicing in the Lord always. Not just happy, but to REJOICE. REJOICE in the Lord ALWAYS and AGAIN I say REJOICE! How much more fun can you have? At the same time though Paul cautions us to be moderate in everything we do, no excesses, an even keel. Work hard, but maintain a time and space for our family, honor our country, and above all honor God. Maintain an even balance between work and play so to speak and moderation in both areas.

In the Gospel John recounts John the Baptist’s role in preparing the way for Jesus. The Pharisees were troubled with the simplicity of his message. They were looking for something more complex, less straightforward, something more like themselves. This is much like many people in the world today who dismiss Christianity as being too simplistic and that would prefer something more complex, something they can get around. It is the human nature at work here, humans in general will always try and find loopholes around what we are supposed to do.

The Pharisees were much like modern day lawyers and liberals, always searching for a loophole in the law so they can do what they want to do without following the law. They failed to realize that there is no loophole behind loving God and loving your neighbor as thyself. They could not comprehend of this. They feared what they couldn’t understand and that is why they wanted Jesus to be put to death. They didn’t understand God’s plan for Jesus and His Ministry. There are too many people today like them who seek to avoid doing what is right so they can do what they want to do. We need God’s help so we do not become like those people!

If the world would do what God asked, our lives would be so much better, we would all be living together in happiness. Doing what God asks would solve all of the problems facing us today on earth. Peace on earth will not be possible until the world accepts Him into their hearts. This is the perfect season for those who haven’t yet, to accept Him, to acknowledge Him at His first true appearance amongst us, at His Birth. Up until the end of our time here on earth, there is always time to accept Him, but do not wait until it is too late to do so!

Jesus also tells us to put our trust in the Lord, then not to worry. He knows how counterproductive, indeed, how destructive, worry can be in our lives. We know it not only cannot, but will not do good, we know it will only hurt our cause; yet we do it. Is this not a proof positive of how much we need His Help? How hard is it to Trust in God and Dread Naught? Very! Extremely difficult as a matter of fact. I myself struggle with this constantly. I know that it does no good but it comes so naturally to me that it is super hard to overcome. The solution to this is to turn to God and let Him carry my/our worries on His Back. Even though it is very hard to trust somebody you can’t see physically, you must trust your spiritual sense and follow Him anyway! Knowing you will see Him physically one day is one of our great rewards. This greatly eases at least my worries and should ease yours as well.

When Saint John is recording the actions of John the Baptist, he tells us when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? They got an answer they neither expected nor really understood, he said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias … I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose. They had no clue what he was talking about. All they could see was what they expected, a king of this world. Yet, John the Baptist knew the kingdom was not of this world, for the King was not of this World, but the Eternal King of Eternity. John the Baptist later says He must increase, but I must decrease. (John 3:30) This is true of us, also. We must let Jesus permeate us and become the dominant force in us. But, it does not happen in the twinkling of the eye. Jack Lewis tells us, We are doing well enough if the slow process of being more in Christ and less in ourselves has made a decent beginning in a long life (it will be completed only in the next world). Jack Lewis suggests you try his plan; I pray ‘Lord, show me just so much (neither more nor less) about myself as I need for doing thy will now.’

The world is extremely complex; it is full of problems, temptations and difficulties. It is full of obstacles for us, yet all Christianity offers is a few simple solutions. We often hear there are no simple answers to complex questions. Actually, that is not true. There are simple answers to complex problems, they are the only ones which can and will work. The problem is they are not the answers people want. Most people do not want to know what they are supposed to do, lest they have to do it. They want to be told what they want to do is at least okay, even though it is clearly not okay. But we need to know what we are doing is actually “Okay”, not what Joe on the corner claims is Okay. To do that, we have to read the Scriptures and listen to what God says is Okay, because He really does know the best in this matter for us.

Once again, when you think about being a Christian, think a bit about these quotes from GK Chesterton:

Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried.
The word good has many meanings. For example, if a man were to shoot his grandmother at a range of five hundred yards, I should call him a good shot, but not necessarily a good man.
The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because generally they are the same people.

We are called to a new and different life, we ask the Lord to both lead us and follow us, to keep us always. Our goal is to do the Lord’s will, not to avoid 613 laws. To do what is right and be humble.

The time is now, not tomorrow. The time has come, indeed. How will you ACT?

The King of kings is coming!

The Collect.

Today we observe the fourth Sunday in Advent. In the reading from Jeremiah we learn about two separate events concerning Jerusalem. The first, when Jerusalem was emptied during the Babylonian captivity and then the second time about the second coming of the Lord Christ, our Savior. The desolation that came to Jerusalem after the Babylonians captured the city; and all the rulers, the wealthy, and the educated of Hebrew society were taken into exile, the city ceased to function. Later, after 70 years, it was restored. But there will come a time when Jerusalem again will be laid bare, either politically or economically or both, then Christ will restore the city for the last time.

The New Heavens and New Earth are described in the book of Revelation as well as several times in the both the Old and New Testament. It is during the Fourth Sunday in Advent we can contemplate Christ’s Second Coming. This is a promised event, yet to come, that will restore the earth to what it was before the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden. The way everything was supposed to be, as God created.

Now to get another perspective to how we should live all year, but especially during Advent, let’s look at the passage from Philippians: 4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The passage in Philippians is an admonition to us for the present. Be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And now the promise of the joy that escapes us many times…the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Most especially at this time of the year we seek a little peace. There are so many things going on and things that need to be done and things that don’t work and things that don’t work out…we sometimes get so wrapped up in Christmas time that we forget the Peace that the baby Jesus will eventually spread around the world came at this time. Peace and quiet, peace and rest, peace and tranquility. Oh, blessed peace.

Now let us look at the final reading for this the Fourth Sunday in Advent. The Gospel of John records the prophecy fulfilled through John the Baptizer, John who lived out in the wilderness, wearing coarse clothing, eating off the land, John who was short of response and yet spoke the Truth. When the religious folk were sent out by the more even more religious folk in Jerusalem to question John, he did not mince any words. They asked if he was the Christ, the coming One who would redeem his people. Who are you ? They wanted to know if he was Elijah, no he replied. Was he the Prophet? The one who would come before the Messiah? John finally answers them by using Scripture, he quotes the passage from Isaiah 40:3. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. When presses further about his baptism, John again refers to a physical sign, an outward sign of something that happens inwardly. I baptize with water, but one comes after me who really existed before me…

Take these three passages into account; remember Christ was prophesied to come as a baby, to come as a king, to come as a savior, to come as the high and mighty ruler of the world, the world he created. It is at this time of the year we should remember God’s greatest gift, His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, came in great humility, born unto us {Immanuel} and he would take away the sins of the world. As we remember these great mysteries let us take that Light to the fallen world, knowing that one day it will be restored, let us share that promise to others. They must come to Christ and know him as their One and only Savior, only He can take away their sins.

Hallelujah the King of kings has come!

Let us pray:

ORD as we approach the commemoration of your first coming, the Nativity or birthday of Christ, let us be aware of those who would have us to remove Christ from every day life, to remove the saving knowledge from our society. Help us to be always vigilant of those who wish God out of existence, give us the words and deeds to show them that there is a better way, the way of the Lord, he and he alone can bring them peace and saving grace. Lord make us an instrument of your Word today. Now bring us to this new week, restored, renewed and ready to show the world that we do have the truth and that we want to share that truth with others. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, TURN thou us, O good Lord, and so shall we be turned. Be favorable, O Lord. Be favorable to thy people, Who turn to thee in weeping, fasting, and praying. For thou art a merciful God, Full of compassion, Long-suffering, and of great pity. Thou sparest when we deserve punishment, And in thy wrath thinkest upon mercy. HAVE YOU MADE A ROOM FOR JESUS?

December 2023, Anno Domini

ND she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. (Luke 2,7)

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

A few weeks ago I started a trip to France. However, when I arrived in Germany – in Munich, it was snowing so much, that they canceled all flights for 5 days, even canceled the metro, trams, city and international buses. I couldn’t continue my journey to France, and what’s even more interesting, I couldn’t even return home to Serbia. I had to find accommodation in Munich and wait to see what would happen. My searching for hotel accommodation was a real agony. I walked from hotel to hotel because i don’t have internet to search room. The snow was fall heavily. The streets were not cleaned. I’m dragging a suitcase on the snow. I entered the first hotel which I saw and asked them for accommodation, however, they turned me away saying there was no room because over a thousand passengers remained in the city due to canceled flights. I went to another hotel where I received an identical answer. It was already evening, and I did not find accommodation in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth hotel because there was no room for me. I also tried two hostels, however, the situation was the same and the answers were always identical – no room. At one moment I began to doubt whether I would even find a place to stay the night. I prayed to God right then. Finally, in one hostel they allowed me to connect to their internet and go to the web page booking.com application and try to find accommodation there. Indeed, thank God I found such a hotel accommodation and got settled safely. Today, that unfortunate happened reminded me of the events that Joseph and Mary went through when they arrived in Bethlehem. They went from inn to inn looking for lodging, but there was none. The Bible account says: “there was no room for them in the inn”.

Have you ever wondered, why was there no room for Jesus in the Inn? Or a much more important question, is there room for Jesus among us today?

The scene of Jesus’ birth, depicted in Luke’s Gospel, introduces us to the seriousness of the situation in which Mary and Joseph found themselves. They headed from Nazareth to Bethlehem to take part in the census. Marija, on the threshold of motherhood, and Josip, a man responsible for protecting his family, at the most vulnerable moment of their lives faced the emotional and spiritual burden that comes with feelings of rejection and isolation. There is no place for them. How often are we ourselves faced with our own need for shelter, spiritual shelter from the coldness of the sins of this world such as injustice, evil, death, disease… we are looking for a place where we could feel safe, accepted and loved. Mary and Joseph in their search for shelter reflect our own spiritual search for a place where we can meet God.

Bethlehem, overflowing with pilgrims and travelers who arrived on the census themselves, had no room for a newborn. Not just any newborn, but the King of the Universe, incarnate as a child. The fact that there was no room in the inn invites us to face the reality of humanity: to make room in our hearts and to give space in our lives to the sacred, to what demands our attention alongside superficial and transitory things. Reflecting on the stiffness of Bethlehem, let’s try to soften our hearts and open them to all people, thus reflecting God’s love and mercy that is embodied in the person of Jesus Christ.

In a world of fast-paced life, dominance of technology and constant flow of information, it is easy to ignore the deeper, spiritual aspects of our lives. This excessive infatuation and saturation with the material and worldly inevitably, leads to spiritual neglect. Just as the people of Bethlehem were busy with their daily tasks and did not notice the birth of the Savior, so we often become so preoccupied with worries that we neglect the need for deep spiritual connection. Let’s pause this Christmas and return the focus to spiritual values.

Unfortunately, modern Christianity is facing a trend of pushing Jesus Christ out of the center of Christmas, replacing him with commercialism, entertainment and hedonism. When people celebrate Christmas today, how many have room for Him, as opposed to example room for Santa Claus or room for a team of reindeers? There is also no place for Him in such an environment. The modern world offers rooms of relativism and subjectivism; but in those rooms there is no authentic Christ and integrity of faith. The meaning of Christmas lies in the gift of love, new life and hope that Jesus Christ brought us with his birth. Where is the room for Someone Who could change our life? People in the throes of their duties will only say – No thank you. Many people today have ‘no room’ for Jesus or God’s word, preferring their own ‘pick-and-mix’ religion or philosophy. Unfortunately, you will agree with me that there is no today room for Christ in our culture, there is no room for Christ in our global politics, no room for Jesus in the public sentiment because postmodern ideology tolerating everything there is to be tolerated but our hyper-tolerant culture there is no tolerance for Jesus! There is plenty of room for politics, sports, gossip, slander, for slander, obscenity, lies, blasphemy, drunkenness, swearing, gossip, entertainment and news, but no room for Jesus! For many people no room for Christ in Christmas – they have only rooms for Christmas tree, for the town Christmas parade or Christmas concert with mulled wine and Christmas dinner – but again, there is no room for Jesus.

I wonder, do we use Jesus as a necessity to get from earth to heaven or do we value Christ as our Savior, Redeemer, Divine Father? (John 14:9). Or you going to treat Jesus like the inn-keeper and say:

I have more important things in the better rooms of my heart… you have to go back there!

Is Jesus living in the appropriate place in our heart today?

What’s ironic although in the beginning of his life there was no room made for him in the inn. Jesus said at the end: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14,2). Although “there was no room” for Christ at Bethlehem’s inn “yet there is room”, room for you in His heart of love, in His Kingdom of Grace, in His Father’s heavenly mansions. There is room’ for every sinner, especially the desperate and downtrodden. That’s love of our Savior!

A room for Jesus is a room for a room for trust, a room for confession, repentance, encouragement, facing yourself and God… a room where you analyze your life, but also a room where you dream and make important decisions of your life. That room is the place where hope will be reborn, the room where the star of Bethlehem shines and where the angels speak… A room for Jesus is a room for miracles.

Just as his earthly parents knocked on the innkeeper’s door, Jesus still knocks looking for a home in your heart. “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20). If you have room in your heart for Jesus, He will make sure you get a room in His Father’s house. Don’t forget the double truth of our Christmas message – first, the words of Saint Luke, chapter two, verse seven, “There was no room for them in the inn;” and then the Savior’s pledge of peace, Saint Luke, chapter fourteen, verse twenty-two, “Yet there is room.”

Fourth Sunday in Advent

Christmas Eve

In Chapter Two of Luke’s gospel (vv. 1-20), he tells of certain shepherds being startled by an angel’s appearance. They were all amazed at what they had seen and heard. And yet it was fitting for God to send his angel to these men as a token of his intention to have our Lord later serve in a somewhat similar capacity, to wit: Jesus Christ came into the world to be the shepherd of men’s souls (John 10:1-16; I Peter 2:21-25).

As we continue our celebration of the birth of the Christ child in this season of Christmastide, let us rejoice not only on account of our Lord’s first coming, but for his second as well. And while Christmas is a joyful time, it also should be a time of reflection. We ought to examine ourselves and seek God‘s forgiveness and cleansing of all our sins and trespasses as well as to offer up our prayers of thanksgiving to God the Father for his great gift of him who came to seek and save the lost; who came that we might have life and have it more abundantly; who came to announce the coming of God’s kingdom to a world darkened by Satan’s lies; and who came to free those have been imprisoned in Satan’s dungeon house of death and despair.

Now our adversary the Devil has labored to keep humanity from experiencing the true joy of embracing Christ as their Saviour and Lord. For nearly two millennia Satan’s minions have questioned the truth of our Lord’s coming, his nature and his bona fides. The Bible does not sway those so deceived as it will remain a “closed book” to all who have not the Spirit of God to guide them into all truth (John 16:13). They see no need to repent of their wicked natures: their fornications, their thefts, their murderous hearts, their greed, their jealousies, their covetousness, their sorceries and their idolatries (Revelation 9:20-21). The evil one has seared their consciences as one might sear a wound with a hot iron so that they cannot feel the sting of their sins (I Timothy 4:2).

Therefore, unless they be regenerate in Christ Jesus, they will only come to know the truth upon their deaths, but by then it will be a truth learned too late (II Timothy 2:25-26). For only whilst they live is God’s offer of free grace in Jesus Christ available to them. As the apostle Paul has written, Now is the day of salvation (II Corinthians 6:2). Consider also the words of our Saviour when he said, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16-18). There, in those words we just heard is the truth of why our Lord came into this world.

Jesus Christ came so that none would perish if they would embrace him as Saviour and Lord. He came to break the chains of sin and death, and free us from Satan’s grasp. As Isaiah the prophet once noted concerning the Messiah’s work on our behalf: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound: to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD..(61:1-2).

So as we celebrate the first advent our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, let us give thanks to God for all his gifts. Let us give thanks for his word written. Let us give thanks for his great love for each of us that he would sacrifice his only- begotten Son: who having been once offered for us, opened the way of salvation to all who would believe on him as their Lord and Saviour. And who came into our world as that little babe in Bethlehem and who will one day come again as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Yes, there is much for us to rejoice over and give thanks to God for his finished work in Jesus Christ. So let us go forth and live the victory which he won for us; and may you all have Merry Christmas and a blessed new year.

Let us pray,

GRACIOUS and loving God, you promised through your prophets that the Messiah would come to save us from this body of sin and death; and, as we remember his humble birth, so help us also to watch for his coming again in glory; and these things we ask in the name of thine only begotten Son, even Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

It is not that God knows not our needs, for He surely does. Yet, Jesus commanded us to ask God for those same needs. In addition to the obvious of asking God for help, offering thanksgiving and the like, prayer helps us focus our thoughts on how we might do God’s work.

The Prayer Team of the Anglican Orthodox Church was established to help our members and fellow Christians pray for those in need and to give thanks as well for the blessings we have been granted.

Who can be on the list? Do I have to be a member of the Anglican Orthodox Church to be prayed for?

No! The only qualification to be on the list is that you want our prayer team to pray for you. We are Christians and are happy to pray for you, no matter who you are. If you want help from God, you are our kind of people.

What is the commitment from the prayer team?

Each member of the team will pray for the desired outcome at last once per day.

How do I get myself or someone else on the prayer list?

What should I ask for?

Depends on what you want. Ask for what you want. It is your desire and need for prayer the team is attempting to meet. For typical examples, see the list below.

Immediate Prayer Please

Rev. Dr. Robert Weldy is a retired priest, long time friend of AOC Minister Jim Cavanaugh, as several health issues. On 19 December 2023, he was admitted to the hospital for a very serious infection in his lower left leg and foot. He is diabetic and is greatly concerned about this infection. He is afraid if the antibiotic treatments do not overcome the infection, he may be facing the loss of part of his leg. Please pray our Heavenly Father will give knowledge, wisdom, and skill to the doctors and medical staff that attend him. May they be instruments of healing. May the LORD our God restore Robert to health and recovery from all sickness.

Harper Cavanah, granddaughter of Rev. James and Dawn Cavanah, is 9 years old, autistic, non-verbal, and has a long history of digestive issues and problems. Harper is back in the hospital with another apparent intestinal blockage. Please pray for Harper, her parents Dustin & Vicki and the medical team. Please pray for peace and comfort to the family and wisdom, knowledge, and skill to the doctors and medical team.

22 December 2023 – Great news! Thanks be to God who answers the prayers of His people in accordance with His sovereign and perfect will. In this case, He heard your pleas for Harper and her family and has done more than we could ask or imagine. She made it beautifully through the surgical procedure on the intestinal blockage and is doing so well that she was discharged last evening. She is recovering at home and doing very well. We are all very thankful to you our prayer warriors for your prayers and your encouraging words. In addition, the medical team has issued some new protocols for home care in the hope that these will keep Harper from having further issues. Again, thank you for your prayers and for your continued prayers! Most of all, THANKS BE TO GOD!

Ditte remains in the ICU with pneumonia and AFIB, she has been suffering from cancer; she decided to forego surgery and attempt to slow the spread by chemotherapy; on top of all that, her eldest son died. Please pray for this family.

Sunghyun Mun, accidentally broke bones in his hand while operating a piece of equipment at his father’s business. He will undergo surgery 18 December 2023.

Debi Romano Gunther had a mammary biopsy on 27 November 2023. The results were mixed, there was a mass, it has to come out, but it was not cancerous. She is understandably concerned. Please pray for peace of mind for her as she waits the procedure and results, for the doctors, nurses and technicians treating her to pay attention and do their very best and for a good result.

Suzie Nogales has been treating for breast cancer, she recently underwent surgery, she is a strong and active Christian, she really has no fear, but does have concern for her children and husband. Please keep Suzie, her family and treating medical team in your prayer.

Myanmar (Burma) We solicit your prayers for the Church and people of Myanmar (Burma). The Rev. Titus has sent this note:

We face a big flood in Bago where I am living now. It has been 2 days and many people in my area moved to another area where the water cannot reach. We are safe by grace` but some houses of my members are going to sink very soon if the rain is not stopped. In the pictures` the houses are in the midst of water damage and there is a house of my member in this place. They cannot go to anywhere to purchase their foods. So dear Bishop and friends` you all are kindly requested to pray for me and my Church members in Myanmar. Thank you all

Billie Broome a stroke survivor who has had femur, knee and hip surgery, spent a month in the hospital, now she has blood clots and severe swelling in her foot which became infected. She is improving slightly and asks that you give thanks for the improvement and pray for complete recovery. Please pray for peace of mind for Billie, her husband Richard and family. They are all strong Christians, but somewhat prone to worry.

Myeongsu Kim, father of Minki, one of Bishop Jerry’s congregation members, has been diagnosed with Colorectal cancer. He is i beginning radiation/chemo treatment prior to surgery. Please pray for peace of mind for him and his family and for guidance for the medical team treating him.

Viera Djurcik, mother of Bishop Igor Djurcik from Serbia, had her left leg amputated above the knee as the result of gangrene. The surgery was successful, but she has a long road ahead for recovery. Please give thank for successful surgery and pray for complete and rapid recovery for Viera and for peace of mind for her and her family.

Tricia Marie underwent abdominal surgery on 28 June 2023; she gives thanks it was apparently successful and asks you to pray with here for a full and rapid recovery, for peace of mind for her and her family. She gives thanks for an apparently successful coil surgery to seal off an aneurysm at the base of her skull on 12 January 2023. She has seemingly recovered from the stroke of December 2021. She still headaches which had been bothering her for months since she got the Moderna vaccine. She has had almost no real sleep or rest for months. She fell on stairs and while apparently broke nothing, is very sore and scared herself. She has gotten some relief from the headache from a Botox injection series, may that continue. Please give thanks for the successful surgery and pray for relief from the headache, nausea and pain and rest for her, for guidance for the doctors, nurses and technicians treating her and a full and rapid recovery, for peace of mind for her and her family.

Bryan Dabney, AOC Minister, had quadruple bypass surgery on 6 July 2023. He is home and seems to be doing well. He is continuing to strengthen, he completed Phase 2 cardiac rehab last and begins Phase 3 now. Phase 3 will be more a maintenance program he will do for the next few months. Please give thanks for the successful surgery and pray for a full and complete recovery. Continue to comfort Brian, his wife Lisa, and son Thomas as they deal with his recovery.

Natalie Oslin Lohrenz is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, she is about 1/3 of the way through the regimen. She is tolerating the poison pretty well, but asks your prayers for it to work and the toleration to continue.

Josh Morley, son of Bishop Charles Morley, has had another grand mal seizure and is back in the hospital. Joshua and Bishop Morley are distraught, as they cannot determine the cause for his seizure. They are hoping to change doctors and find a cause and cure for Joshua. Bishop Morley says Joshua is healthy in every way but for having these seizures.

David McMillan recently suffered a stroke. Please pray for guidance for the doctors, nurses and technicians treating him and for peace of mind for David and his family.

Alicia, her husband, Andrew, and their two young daughters. Alicia has Susac’s Disease and narcolepsy. She has not been able to work and is having a difficult time even functioning. Please pray for her, her family, and those that attend her. May heavenly wisdom fill the doctors that they may treat Alicia and serve as God’s instruments to restore her to health.

Harry Brooks, Major USMC – GA ANG Retired – just finished a round of chemotherapy, which he barely survived and had his cancerous bladder in March 2023. Please pray for guidance for the doctors, nurses and technicians treating him and for peace of mind for Harry and his family and for a good result.

Major Tom Connell, a good friend of Hap Arnold, had surgery on 25 February 2022, for abdominal cancer to remove a tumor. Spots have now appeared on his liver and he is restarting chemotherapy in January 2023. Tom asks you join him in praying for him to tolerate the treatment. Tom is a good guy and a faithful Christian; he is grateful for weathering this storm to date and the comfort God provided to him and his family.

Bob Apple just found out he has cancer and is beginning treatment. Please pray for the doctors, nurses and technicians treating him that they might pay attention, do their very best and be open to God’s guidance; pray also for peace of mind for Bob.

Deanna Sampson started to treat for cataracts and found she had an irregular heartbeat, then breast cancer with precluded the operation. She had apparently successful surgery for the cancer and has undergone radiation treatment, she is waiting to see what comes next. A strong Christian with an incredible attitude, she could nonetheless use your prayers.

Henry Johnson (age 3) suffers from a rare form of epilepsy. Please join his parents in praying a treatment regimen can be found to treat his condition.

Shamu is totally exhausted, but in relatively good spirits. Shamu has a terrible headache, is in a lot of pain; feels like she has been stabbed, totally exhausted and weak, but her faith is incredibly strong. They have found a mass in her upper abdomen which must be investigated. She asks you pray for guidance for the medical people helping her. After 36 surgeries, she is quite very weak, but strong in her trust in our Lord as she goes through this difficult time. She needs your prayer. Please.

Tommy Cook is beset by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Congestive Heart failure. It seems there is little that can be done except fight a delaying action against the aggressive pair. At present it seems like the only avenue open is a heart lung transplant and little chance of that. He asks you pray for guidance for the doctors, nurses and technicians treating him and the miracle of a full and rapid recovery, for peace of mind for him and his family. He is a very strong Christian and has no concern for himself, but for his wife, children and mother.

David Connis has Stage Four colon cancer, he can no longer do chemotherapy and has switched to immunotherapy in the hope of surviving to participate in an experimental program in December. John Thomas, of Malaysia, a long time friend of Bishop Jerry, a persevering servant of the Lord for many years. His health has begun to fade in his present age of 79. Please pray the Lord will extend a merciful hand to John, and his devoted wife Gina, in working out His perfect will for both.

Joey Angelica is a recovering addict with liver cancer and diabetes, he lost his job during the plandemic, then found out he has liver cancer. He is a very strong Christian, he and his friend Vicki ask that you pray for his recovery and continued trust in God.

Janine Alvarado’s daughter has what appears to be terminal cancer, she is in much pain, in and out of the hospital. Saundra is in ICU with congestive heart failure after a heart operation. She is aged and frail. Saundra is near the end of her time here on earth. Ron had a Heart Attack, at the hospital he found out he also has Kidney Cancer. He is a man of faith and is in need of prayer for his health and that the Lord will provide strength for his family.

Krysti is off life support and able to talk, please give thanks for the good news. She is still unable to feel her legs. When that comes back she will go to a rehabilitation facility. Krysti has used drugs, has high blood pressure, is diabetic and has organ failure. Her families are with her and will appreciate your prayers.

Amy has been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma and has cancer all over her body, and in one of her kidneys which are no longer functioning. Gemma Dillinger has been treating for breast cancer for over a year now, after surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy, she is reaching the limit of her tolerance with no end in sight. Ray Daley is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served his country during the Korean War era. Ray is taking chemotherapy treatments for cancer. Meanwhile his son Trevor is in the hospital in a coma and seems to have lost the will to live.

Pat has been under treatment for colon cancer for some time. He has had major complications the last few days and your prayers will be appreciated by family and friends.

Dorothy had pneumonia, on checking her lungs they found tumors which permeated the lung area. Further investigation found a primary site in the colon, with the lung being secondary. Jim and Pam Lanno – After Jim was recovering from a heart attack, he noticed something was off. Soon came the diagnosis of ALS along with dementia. He is in his early 60s. Pam is learning the role of care taker and overwhelmed and fearful at times. Both are good Christians and love the Lord with all their hearts. Pray for God’s Comfort and Guidance for both and all caretakers who assist.

John has Alzheimer’s pray he will call on God to help him as he deals with this.

Steve, brother in law of Paul Martin, appears to have early onset dementia. Steve had teenage children and is very concerned for them. Please pray for the disease to stall or abate and for peace of mind for Steve and his family.

Joan has had serious medical problems that have kept her confined. Please pray her health will remain stable.

Bobby Bretz is having a kidney removed on 18 December 2023.

Albert had a pacemaker installed recently. He will require surgery soon for a leaking heart valve and has just been told he has esophageal cancer. Pray he will turn to God and come to know Him on a more personal basis as the days go by.

Mario has early-diagnosed prostate cancer and had surgery. Pray for complete remission and that Mario and his family will be able to put their worry on God’s shoulders.

Melissa Morgan, a young woman in her thirties just found out she has ovarian cancer. Glenn Porter, MAJ USMC Retired, has Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis, which causes him to be unable to get enough oxygen into his system without supplemental oxygen all the time. The only real treatment is a lung transplant, without a transplant he has between two to five years here on earth. Please pray for him to continue in his faith and for a set of lungs to become available.

Pat has an aneurism of the brain, pray she will make the right decision on how to treat this problem and it will be healed.

Dan is very sick with cancer and is starting an experimental treatment. This treatment will take Dan away from their family business and put even more stress on him and his family. Timothy has brain cancer. He had surgery and is waiting for the pathology report to find out what kind of chemo he will need. Elma has been suffering with headaches for a long time. Doctors have not been able to discover the reason for them. Deborah has had a stroke, she is doing much better and out of the hospital. She has a problem with anemia and is taking supplements for that. Pray our Lord will be close to her and her family. Paul has been hospitalized recently several times because of persistent high fevers. Preston is reacting poorly to recent neck surgery and now has problems with his liver count; Physicians feel that dialysis will help. Healing

Sandra Zimmerman was diagnosed with triple positive Stage 2 breast cancer. She had a mammogram done last year at 40 years old and it was clear. This July they found two suspicious lumps, there was follow up with another mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy, bloodwork, MRI, more bloodwork, and PET scan. Sandra’s most pressing concern is how she will take care of her baby Sophie as she goes through chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation along with a cocktail of pills. It’s going to be a year long journey, she asks your prayer to stay strong and fight this battle!

Ronnie Bretz is recovering from brain surgery.

Madisun Hanks (21) has Tourette’s Syndrome and suffers from horrible migraine headaches. There are various very high risk treatments which provide some relief. None of them are close and none are easy. Madisun is truly one of the most inspiring young ladies we have ever come across, her attitude and actions are almost unbelievable. No one should have to go through what she does, but she makes it through and performs incredibly when others just get by. Please pray for Madisun, her mom Hilda who guides her through all this and those treating her.

Hilda Hanks has developed diabetes, which resulted in the need for eye surgery and has difficulty with the added stress in her life. Linda recently had a basal cell carcinoma removed and she is doing well, 15 years with Multiple Myeloma is doing great. She is continuing bimonthly chemo and this keeps her going strong, she is grateful for all prayers.

Chris Hill (close friend of Jon Weston) suffered a brain aneurysm and needs your prayers. He came out of a coma he had been in since the week before Christmas 2016. He is now in a stepdown facility. Every day is a new day to him; his memory seems to have been damaged to a point where it is not recovering so far. Jon has Stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma. There is good news in that he is in remission; however the chemotherapy is producing neuropathy in his legs so it is a challenge for him to get around. Please pray that he will be as comfortable as possible; he has been a Marathon runner so this is especially difficult.

Amy has melanoma in her lungs, liver and kidneys; they have found a treatment for her that has a high success rate however the side effects are debilitating. Please pray she will be able to tolerate the side effects and the treatment is successful. Amy has full trust in the Lord, but would still appreciate your prayers.

Liz had a massive stroke at age thirty-seven. The prognosis is good but she has a long road ahead. Please pray for guidance for those treating her, for trust in our Lord for Liz and her family, for healing.

Ebick is suffering from a severe ulcer but the Doctors cannot give her the proper dosage of the medicine due to her six month pregnancy. Please pray doctors will find an alternative avenue for treatment or that God will provide.

Stan is going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer. He is elderly and the treatments are tiring him. Please pray for his wife Marvelene as they do this together.

David has many concussions and unable to go to school, read books, watch TV and has headaches and migraines. He has trouble sleeping and his family will appreciate your prayers for this 10 year old young man.

Gladys has breast cancer and has had a lumpectomy. She needs to take a year off of her work to have chemo treatments.

Alwin Jack has had a stroke and recently has had a relapse. Please pray for those who treat Alwin that they might choose the best possible treatment and pray for peace of mind for Alwin during the recovery phase.

Bud and his wife for their continued welfare and enthusiasm. Bud has been advised of an aneurism in his heart of a size not mandating immediate surgery. This comes at a time when he has sole care of his wife who recently broke two vertebrae and thereafter sustained pneumonia.

Dester is suffering from unknown skin and diseases. Please guide the medical team treating him to find out what the problem is and cure it. Pray also for Dester to trust in the Lord.

Lee has Arterial Fibrillation, she is doing much better and she and her family thank you for your prayers. Her pain level is high and some medications have bad side effects. Please continue her in Prayer in the weeks ahead as she heals.

Nell recently adopted two children and has just been diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

Mary Lou has been suffering with seizures. She was in the hospital with a 24 hour monitor and is being sent home from the hospital with two medications and orders to return in 2 months for another MRI to review whatever is going on in her brain. Please pray for guidance for the medical people treating her, as well as peace of mind and trust in God for her and her family.

Kathleen has spent the last two weeks in the hospital. She has been diagnosed with colitis, shingles and possibly colon cancer. Pray she will be comfortable and begin to heal.

Rachel has Mitochondrial Myopathy. This is a hereditary disease of the muscles and they do not have a cure for it. Part of her pain is her family does not believe she is indeed ill, as she appears to be just fine. Please pray her family will learn the truth and be supportive of her; pray also the medical people treating her will find the right measures to minimize the disease. Most particularly pray for Rachel’s trust in God.

Nicolas is in the hospital with serious symptoms of a heart disorder. Please pray for peace of mind for him and guidance for the medical team looking for the cause and cure.

Juanita is a young girl who was in a coma because of a blood disease. She has not come out and is gaining strength. They are awaiting results from blood samples. Her family thanks you for your prayers and asks that you continue.

Healing and Patience

Angie Colgrove has various problems and challenges, physical, mental, and spiritual. She asks you pray for guidance for her and those treating her, as well as for her family.

Kym (43) has various hip problems which seems to be related to osteoarthritis. And, her mother Ruth is in the early stages of dementia. Pray for guidance for those treating both of them, as well as patience and trust in the Lord for both of them.

Christopher has had problems with his leg for some time. Now he has to have it casted and it will stay that way for what to him seems an interminable time. Pray for patience and peace of mind for this young man who has much he wants to do.

Thanksgiving and Continued Healing

Dave Carroll, husband of Cinder, the AOC Office Manager, had what seems to be a very successful second knee replacement the morning of Tuesday, 21 November 2023. Please give thanks for the good result and pray for a full and rapid recovery.

Don Fultz fell in response to a house on fire across the street and broke his hip. He is had surgery and spent time in the Cardiac Care Unit in response to a heart arrythmia apparently due to the anesthesia. That was resolved and Don returned home to complete his recovery and is doing well. He and his family thank you for your prayers. Please continue praying for a complete recovery.

Barbara (Paulette Ratcliff’s) sister, has battled stomach cancer through removal of tumor and chemotherapy but the tumor returned at 7 centimeters. She had apparently successful surgery on Friday 24 June 2022. Please give thanks for the successful surgery and for a full and rapid recovery and for full remission of the cancer. Pray also for peace of mind for Barbara, her children, her sisters and brothers.

Deborah Drucilla, sister of Bishop Jerry, was hospitalized with a number of issues including blood clot in her liver. She is now home. Please give thanks for a good result so far and a full and rapid recovery, for peace of mind for her and her family.

Cindy (81) had an operation to remove a cancerous growth in her stomach which was successful. She is now home, but in a bit of pain. Please give thanks for the good result, pray for full and complete healing and remission of the cancer, as well as cessation of the pain; pray also for continued faith for Cindy and her husband Les (91).

Terry was undergoing radiation treatment for cancer, which he had to stop to amputate his leg below the knee due to diabetes. The surgery was successful, he has been fitted with a prosthetic leg and foot. He is in good spirits and positive about the remainder of his treatment. Please join Terry and his family in giving thanks for the successful surgery and continue to pray for his return to radiation treatment and then to chemotherapy, ask God to give Terry, his wife and seven year old son trust in him for peace of mind and heart, as well.

Janet Jessup had a stroke and heart problems were causing huge issues for her. They seem to have gotten her stabilized and she is home. Please pray for those treating her to find the appropriate treatment and for trust in God and peace of mind for Janet and her family, in particular her husband of 45 years, Rev Roger Jessup, retired minister of Saint Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Orthodox Church.

Sam had surgery on his entire large intestine that had become infected. At the time of the operation he was just hours away from a complete organ shutdown. He had had turmoil in his life over the years. Sam is now in the ICU and his Minister visited him and explained to him God had given him another chance for him to make things right with his Lord. Pray for his good health and his spiritual life with Jesus.

Mike is a veteran who has served his country when she called. Please pray he will open his heart to God so He can make Mike’s crooked road straight and pull him towards the summit rather than to the pit.

Financial Guidance and Employment

Kona is applying for a job in the hospital. Pray our Lord will find the right position for her and she will glorify Him in the work.

Doug recently became unemployed from his job of 18 years. He has been applying for jobs, but unable to get one at this time. His wife is working; this is not enough for the family. Please pray he will find employment with a firm that will be able to use his considerable skill and hard work to benefit both the firm and the family.

Lori is considering a potential change in her employment. Please pray for God’s guidance in considering all aspects of her potential work.

Financial Guidance and Healing

Clark is in need of salvation; for God’s Will to be done in his life. Pray his family will be blessed with the financial miracles that come from doing His Will.

Guidance

Zachary is seems to be on his way away from the darkside; please pray he will continue towards our Lord and good citizenship.

Linda is slowly converting her children through her great loving attitude and Love of the Lord.

Judy seemingly does not want to allow the Holy Ghost into her heart so she might come to know our Lord and Savior, despite the efforts of her family. Please pray for her to open her heart and for her family to be at peace with their efforts.

Barbara has been recovering from cancer for the last three years. Pray for her husband Bill who has come down with a mental illness that may have been caused by much stress the last few years. Barbara and Bill will appreciate your prayers.

Larry is very weak and has periods of confusion and depression. Larry has been in the hospital and recently moved to a rehab. Please keep him in prayer as he begins to gain strength in the days ahead.

Thomas recently learned as the result of a parole violation he will not be allowed to return to society for the remainder of his life. He is despairing and fearful of his inability to cope with this new news and God’s plan for his life. Please pray he will be able to work with God to live with the choices he has made and go forward.

Cam has gotten into some of the issues being with the wrong crowds, too much dinking and making the wrong decisions. Pray he will ask God to send the Holy Ghost in to straighten things out and he will listen when He speaks to him.

Paul recently had his large toe amputated due to diabetes and is having a difficult recovery filled with fear about dying. He recently accepted Jesus as his savior and his family Rosie and Brenda are very grateful. Pray for strength for both Rosie and Brenda who are staying by his side through it all encouraging him on.

Steve is addicted to alcohol, pain pills and gambling. Pray for wisdom, courage and strength to stick with treatment and follow God’s plan for his life.

Eli has some mental issues and has lost his way. He has yet to come to grips with the demons chasing him. He has returned to his family living in a cottage on his parents’ property in Hawaii so that they can keep him on his meds. He is doing much better, but he still needs prayer to follow his medication schedule. His parents are so thankful for all of the prayers as they have felt the Holy Spirit’s power in handling Eli during his dark periods.

Michael and his Family ask your prayers for wisdom as they are under trial and affliction to follow the law of the land and yet honor God in so doing.

Flora is in remission with cancer, but has high blood pressure and fatigue. Flora’s Mother recently died and this has caused added stress. Please pray she will be able to let God carry her worry and sorrow so she can do the things she must do.

Mitten has a Christian talking to him about Christ. Mitten does not believe and does not seem to care. Please pray Mitten will see the light.

Kristen, Rickey and their two children ask you to pray for grace, wisdom and understanding as they attempt to cope with infidelity, separation and possibly divorce as a result of backsliding from the Lord into the World.

Helene and her family ask your prayers for them as they deal with the loss of Alan, husband and father.

Caitlin is in the grip of the Prince of Darkness; she thinks there is escape from reality in drugs. The saddest part is that reality is not as she sees it. Her family is despairing as they can do nothing to help her and ask that you pray for the Holy Ghost to enter into heart and show her the need for change before it is too late.

Nathaniel is in spiritual turmoil. His family and friends will appreciate it if you will keep him in your prayers for him to find the root of his trouble and accept God’s help.

Sam and her two children have been living in a shelter and are to lose their place there. Please pray a place will be found they can stay in and recover.

Jonathan is addicted to drugs. He is now in jail awaiting trial. His parents and friends will appreciate it if you will keep him in your prayers for him to find the root of his trouble and accept God’s help to heal addiction.

Beth is suffering from ungodly treatment in her marriage. Please pray God will guide her in her behavior, actions and thoughts that she might be able to lead her husband to God so her marriage might prosper to the benefit of them.

Jeanette has had many members of her family die from diabetes and several are near death now. Jeanette does not know the Lord and is despondent and perplexed about her family and herself. Please pray she can open her heart to allow the Holy Ghost in to bring her knowledge and understanding.

Sara asks that you pray for guidance for her as she deals with the stresses of life. Pray she can separate those things which she can affect from those things which she cannot and give her grace to accept that she cannot do everything and can only change those things within her control. She asks for God’s help to keep up with the needs of her husband and healing her own problems.

We are generally doing good, except that all boundary checkpoint out were tightened again due to the DELTA VARIANT entered the city. On the other side, our members in Tulodan are now experiencing famine due to the effect of the recent continues heavy rains during the month of July to early August which completely destroyed their vegetable plantation.

I am writing to request your prayers for Colombia, my country. At this moment frightful things are happening, a great diabolical shadow is cast over this nation.

The Constitutional Court in a tyrannical way has decriminalized the crime of abortion in Colombia, even up to six months. This is an illegitimate process, the court is legislating, something that is not within the competence of the judges, on the other hand the issue of abortion was a cause judged in 2006, which is why it should not be judged again in 2022. But socialist groups, international elites, social engineers and feminist groups have not given up on the issue. They want to traffic in death.

The candidate of the extreme left Gustavo Petro is close to become the president of Colombia, this is a man who in his youth was a guerrilla criminal, a vile and despicable man who has always served the interests of drug trafficking, he was an advisor to Chavez who implanted Communism in Venezuela, his second home is Communist Cuba.

The same court approved the movement of Gustavo Petro called: la Colombia Humana, it gave him the status of a political party, with this, he has the possibility of getting to introduce at least 15 congressmen, basically he is close to kidnapping all the powers, he already has the judicial power in his pocket, he only lacks the executive and the legislative. We are close to the precipice, we trust in a miracle of God.

For Our Country

Our country has lost its way. Over half the people that vote, voted for a government that promises them things it cannot deliver in return for their souls which it can, will and does take. Our foreign policy backs the rise of Islam, we turn our backs on those who would follow God and arm those who murder them. Pray God will raise up a leader from among the people who can turn the country’s course 180° and attempt to come back to God. Pray the people will recognize that they are headed down a smooth wide road into the pit, a road that will get smoother and smoother, steeper and steeper until the only possible way is down. Down, into the depths of the pit. Pray people will recognize there is:

One True and Triune God who is goodness in and of Himself;
All religions are not equal;
All ways of life are not equal;
The Bible holds the Key to Life;
All rights come from God, not the State;
Good;
Bad;
Evil;
Right;
Wrong;
Allah is the Devil;
Abortion is no more than sacrifice of children to Baal.

Pray this recognition will not come too late. Pray we will, each of us, do our duty to God, Country and Family, putting His Honor above all.

Persecuted

Around the world, Christians are under attack, not only in the Muslim world, but from Hindus and others in India. Also, they are under continual attack in the name of Separation of Church and State in the western world, as it becomes actively atheist or pro-devil buddy. Please pray for God’s guidance and protection for all persecuted Christians and those around them.

[1] Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Healthy plasma cells help you fight infections by making antibodies that recognize and attack germs. In multiple myeloma, cancerous plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow and crowd out healthy blood cells. While there is no cure for multiple myeloma, the cancer can be managed successfully in many patients for years; the average life expectancy is 4 years. However, some people beat the odds and live 10 to 20 years or more. The most common cause of death related to multiple myeloma is infection, with pneumonia being the most common fatal infection. Other common causes of death are bleeding (from low platelet counts), complications of bone fractures, kidney failure, and blood clots in the lungs.
