THE FOOL

A Devotion for 7 June 2019 Anno Domini, the Anglican Orthodox Communion Worldwide

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. 5There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. 6Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. 7Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.  (Psalm 14:1-7; all scripture quoted is from the king James Version)

No, I am not directing this devotion solely to the fools in Congress or in the wider  political Swamp in Washington, D.C. The domain of the fool is much larger than these corrupt and contemptible precincts. The larger domain of the fool begins with the child and its indoctrination into things completely unwholesome and immoral at such an early age that they are not yet capable of discerning right from wrong.

There was a time stretching over almost two centuries in which American education was the envy of the world. Such institutions as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and many others were founded upon Christian principles and for the avowed purpose of propagating the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. If you believe any of our mainline educational institutions still reflect any hint of biblical morality, ALERTNESS CHECK – they do not! Quite to the contrary, they have long ago abandoned the biblical mortality that guided America into the status of greatest nation in the world – not just because of wealth, but more importantly because our people held great moral principles and biblical values as the leading light of their lives.

Let us take one example from a prestigious and highly acclaimed American university – Harvard.

Harvard University was founded in 1636 with the intention of establishing a school to train Christian ministers. In accordance with that vision, Harvard’s “Rules and Precepts,” adopted in 1646, stated (original spelling and Scriptural references retained):

  1. Let every Student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the maine end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life (John 17:3) and therefore to lay Christ in the bottome, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and Learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisedome, Let every one seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seeke it of him (Prov. 2:3).
  2. Every one shall so exercise himselfe in reading the Scriptures twice a day, that he shall be ready to give such an account of his proficiency therein, both in Theoreticall observations of Language and Logick, and in practical and spiritual truths, as his Tutor shall require, according to his ability; seeing the entrance of the word giveth light, it giveth understanding to the simple(Psalm 119:130). (see The Harvard Graduate Christian Community website)

The former seal of Harvard contained this motto: Veritas, Christo et Ecclesia (Truth, Christ and Church) There were two books on that ancient seal that were opened face up. Beneath was a book opened face down. This was to suggest that there was a limit to the reason of man and that God’s revelation was necessary to any great learning. In more recent decades, the seal was changed to reflect three books opened upward to suggest that man’s reason alone is sufficient for man’s knowledge. The third book no longer faces downward, and neither have the words, Christos and Ecclesia, been retained. The seal now simply reads, Veritas(Truth).

The fool rejects both history and institutional memory. The Empire of Fools cannot stand when the citizenry are mindful of their history, their faith, and their legitimate source of rights and liberties. So, great men of a nation’s founding must be demeaned, her monuments destroyed and her claims of liberty in governing documents dismissed as ‘oppressive of the poor.’ The fool develops all sorts of false theories of science and politics to cover his incompetency

It is simply amazing to what extreme measures the fool will go to prove that he does not need, nor believe in, God. “18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”  (Romans 1:18-22)

Guess what? Modern education at schools such as Harvard, Yale, USC, Emory, etc. have become havens for fools – having rejected the wisdom of God, they have opted to become so. They have become institutions of indoctrination rather than purveyors of truth and proper education.

In the late forties and early fifties, my school day was begun with the Lord’s Prayer, the reading of a Psalm, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of a single verse of My Country ‘tis of Thee– a hymn that was sung in most churches in America every Sunday in that day. The textbook readers we studied contained stories with uplifting morals, and some were even directly taken from Holy Scripture. The Ten Commandments were a matter of memorization and were posted in the classroom. Our first grade theme song was “School Days, School Days, Good old Golden rule Days.” I have not experienced any trauma whatsoever from believing that the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule were the high road for me to take though I have fallen short of that ideal.

The social engineers, whose only object is to destroy our constitutional freedoms and God-given rights, have managed to infiltrate our judicial system by getting corrupt and treasonous judges appointed to District, Circuit and even Supreme Court vacancies. These black-robed men and women of treasonous intent, and even less devotion to liberty, have turned the US Constitution on its head in falsely interpreting the Constitution to mean something in direct opposition to what it actually says.  They have introduced an ideology in direct contempt of our Constitutional values along with their allies in Congress. Many Americans who have the God-given sense to understand the treasonous goals of the false justice and immorality being introduced are not accustomed to dealing with such abject wickedness in high places. They find it hard to believe that the undermining of our Constitutional Republic could ever be an intentional object of men duly elected to defend that very Constitutional Republic; but if we do not soon wake up, it may be too late to stay the hand of God’s judgment against an evil and adulterous generation.

There is presently a bill proposed in Congress that would criminalize my preaching from Romans chapter one. Why, you may ask? Because this is the most explicit expression of God’s condemnation of sexual perversion and immorality in the New Testament: “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:24-32)

The enemies of biblical morality and God-given Liberty are tireless in their efforts to stop the mouths of all who would reveal the enormity of their wickedness. What is the final word to the wise in the face of institutional fools and they false philosophies? “I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 14That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. 17Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.20O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called21Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.” (1Timothy 6:13-21)
