On Point

Someone asked, where do the quotes come from?  The answer is from the people who uttered them.  But, how did you find them?  Oh, that.  Some from Bishop Jerry, many from Rev Bryan Dabney, a few from other places, but overall mostly from Bryan.  He always has some great ones to share.  On to the On Point quotes –

I am for doing good to the poor, but…I think the best way of doing good to the poor is not in making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed…that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

In order to understand the social justice movement, one must first replace the word ‘justice’ with the word ‘vengeance.’ It’s not about settling the books or making anyone whole. It is about establishing a new hierarchy in which [ethnic European Americans] are the infidels of the new multicultural empire, forever paying the jizya (a head-tax) to keep modern society rolling. The point of the tax is not just to finance the system, but to lock in the moral relationships of the new multicultural empire, because it cannot exist without the jizya.

Propers

Each Sunday there are Propers: special prayers and readings from the Bible.  There is a Collect for the Day; that is a single thought prayer, most written either before the re-founding of the Church of England in the 1540s or written by Bishop Thomas Cranmer, the first Archbishop of Canterbury after the re-founding.

The Collect for the Day is to be read on Sunday and during Morning and Evening Prayer until the next Sunday. The Epistle is normally a reading from one of the various Epistles, or letters, in the New Testament.  The Gospel is a reading from one of the Holy Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  The Collect is said by the minister as a prayer, the Epistle can be read by either a designated reader (as we do in our church) or by one of the ministers and the Holy Gospel, which during the service in our church is read by an ordained minister.

The propers are the same each year, except if a Red Letter Feast, that is one with propers in the prayerbook, falls on a Sunday, then those propers are to be read instead, except in a White Season, where it is put off.  Red Letter Feasts, so called because in the Altar Prayerbooks the titles are in red, are special days.  Most of the Red Letter Feasts are dedicated to early saints instrumental in the development of the church, others to special events.  Some days are particularly special and the Collect for that day is to be used for an octave (eight days) or an entire season, like Advent or Lent.

The Propers for today are found on Page 115-118, with the Collect first:

The Collect.

O

 LORD, we beseech thee to keep thy Church and household continually in thy true religion; that they who do lean only upon the hope of thy heavenly grace may evermore be defended by thy mighty power; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle for today came from the Third Chapter of Paul’s letter to the Colossians beginning at the Twelfth Verse:

P

UT on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

The Holy Gospel for this morning came from the Thirteenth Chapter of the Gospel of Saint Matthew beginning at the Twenty-Fourth Verse.

T

HE kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

The Gospel

(Matt 13:24-30)

A

NOTHER parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28  He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I wll say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn

We find that there are eight parables in the 13th chapter of Matthew. Though most of these parables relate directly to the Kingdom of Heaven, this parable is a mix of the Kingdom and of the World. Around the end of the 19th century, there began to be propagated a great lie by politicians and their cohorts in religion that there existed a great brotherhood that embraced all men upon the earth.  The Brotherhood of Man and the Fatherhood of God – was the popular slogan behind this insidiously false claim. We are not “all God’s chillun’”! There are two, only, families upon the earth – the Children of God, or the Children of the Devil. We all belong to one or the other of these two families. While it is true that God created all living, He does not force His privileged parentage on any.  The results of this lie have been a justification for every excess in governments to collectivize their economies and societies and to enforce the mediocrity of Communistically inclined policies upon their populations. The concept forces all – good and evil – into the lowest common denominator of value as human beings.

Perhaps our susceptibility to deception is a result of a failure to fortify our souls with the wisdom and knowledge that comes directly from God’s Word. In the reading of many letters home from soldiers of the American Revolutionary War and War Between the States, I have observed that there is often greater faith and mastery in the Holy Scriptures evidenced in those letters than that demonstrated by most modern theologians and ministers of mainline churches. Have we forgotten what one thing will assure the destruction of God’s people? Allow me to rekindle your fires of remembrance: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. (Hosea 4:6) Another factor may be that our ears have grown dull of hearing the Word of God through selective filtration of things Godly. Jesus concludes the previous parable with this mysterious command: Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Matt 13:9)

There is an auditory disability called auditory verbal agnosia, also known as Pure Word Deafness, that is caused by bilateral damage to the posterior superior temporal lobes. Well, there is a corresponding disability of the inner ear of the heart which has disregarded God’s full counsel with such frequency that the Voice of God can no longer be heard by that heart. That heart, calloused by repetitive sin and rejection of righteousness, has grown dull: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron. (1 Tim 4:1-2)

So, the setting that Jesus confronts is a multitude of hearts that have been subject to fables and endless genealogies of the Pharisees and Sadducees that have stunted their understanding and removed any reference point for grasping these marvelous truths of Christ that are so completely extrinsic to their primitive minds.

24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: We see a slightly different venue and application in this parable of a Sower and that of the prior Sower and four different soils. The Sower is still the Lord Jesus Christ, the field represent the world, and the good seed here represents the children of the kingdom. He that soweth the good seed is the Son of manThe field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; (Matt 13:37-38)

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. It is perfectly normal for men to rest and sleep after their labors. Such rest does not make them remiss of their duties before God or man. The point seems that, despite the best efforts of righteous people, evil is bound to come from that same source it came in the Garden at Eden – the Devil himself. He works best during the hours of darkness and his seed are seeds of ruin and death. These seed sowed by the Devil are the children of the devil. …..but the tares are the children of the wicked one. (Matt 13:38b) The one who sows these bad seed is the Devil: The enemy that sowed them is the devil…. (Matthew 13:39a)

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?  What do men expect of the seeds they plant? I suggest that they expect the same nature of plant to grow therefrom as the seed planted. The good seed produced good fruit. The bad seed produced bad fruit (tares). The tares are the children of the wicked one, who are filled with his spirit, live according to his principles, and are under his control. They are not a degenerate form of virtue, but as distinct as virtue and vice. They often resemble the good till the fruit begins to appear, but they are as different as wheat and tares, as thistles and roses. We are the Lord’s servants (not simply the ordained ministry, but all believers). Do we sometimes wonder why our best efforts and Godly projects are mixed with emotions of greed, jealousy, and vanity in church? The devil does not restrict his children to the gaming tables, bars, prisons, and bordellos of the city – he also sends them to church as purveyors of every indecency. Though all men bear the seeds of wickedness in their hearts, the mastermind of all wickedness is Satan. He coordinates his plans and activities with a brilliance that is beyond the mind of man to understand.  But God’s Holy Spirit is a defollient against every parasitic weed, and plants, in its place,Trees of Righteousness and Virtue.

28  He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. Who did Jesus say did this evil? An enemy! Satan is the enemy of your soul. He seeks no other joy than to ruin your hope and destroy your soul through every means of deception available in his arsenal of dirty tricks. It is discomforting to know that he NEVER takes vacation! We would like to clean house of the traitors, but Christ reserves that duty to Himself lest we err in our judgment. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Good and evil will exist side by side until the end of the world, then comes the harvest. The reapers will be sent into the four quarters of the earth to gather, first, the tares. These shall be shackled and cast into the fires. Then comes the gathering of the wheat (good seed) which is gathered into His barn (Kingdom).

T

HE harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Matt 13:39c-43)

Have you heard and understood? The only proof that learning has occurred is by way of a change in behavior. Is your hearing keen to God’s Word, and does your living stand the earnest of your hearing?

Sermon – Reverend Jack Arnold – Time and Action

Church of the Faithful Centurion, Descanso, California

Today’s sermon brought the Collect, Epistle and Gospel together and is partly contained in the forewords above.

Consider these words from the Collect:

… keep thy Church and household continually in thy true religion; that they who do lean only upon the hope of thy heavenly grace may evermore be defended by thy mighty power …

In the Collect, we are asking God to keep His People (that is US) in line with His Wishes, not our own, so we might be defended by Him.  We cannot expect Him to defend us from the slings and arrows of this world if we will not line up behind Him.  This is a pretty simple concept, but one that escapes so many.   We find God being blamed by people who do what they want, not what He wants them to do.

The truth of the matter is that the blame rather lies within us. We are the cause of all our problem due to our inherent sinful fallen nature.  We are asking for His Help and intervention in our lives, that we might be cured of this dreadful sickness known as Sin. It is not a surprise a lot of Jesus’s miracles were healing of various long suffering people with sickness. In a way, they are allegorical, in that He heals us of our sins, as He healed them of their physical sickness. His miracles shows us He will heal our terminal condition known as Sin, if we will but let Him into our heart. The key word here is let into our hearts. We have to be ready, willing and able to receive Him into our hearts that we might have a transformation of our hearts, souls and minds.

Paul reminds us that God wants us to treat others as we would be treated; having “a heart of compassion, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another…” Paul says these are qualities we must have if we are truly the elect (chosen) of God. These qualities all follow the summary of the law that Jesus gave us, Love God and Love your neighbor as thyself. If we do not have these qualities, how can we be called the chosen of God?

Our ultimate example to follow is that of Jesus. He forgave us, stood in our place, accounted us (who are guilty of capital crimes) as perfect.  Yet, we want to hold a grudge against someone for leaving us alone a few minutes too long.  How is that right?

In addition to being forgiving, we are to be sharing of His Word and joyful while doing it!  Let us think about Psalm 100, the Jubilate Deo:

O

 BE joyful in the Lord, all ye lands: * serve the Lord with gladness, and come before his presence with a song.

Be ye sure that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; * we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; * be thankful unto him, and speak good of his Name.

For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting; * and his truth endureth from generation to generation.

Does this psalm not give a lot of insight into how we are to live our lives?

We learn from this psalm that we are to be a joyful people giving thanks to the Lord always. We have to always remember that it is He that created us and not us, we are not self-made men. We are God created men and it would do us well to always remember that.

Paul calls for us to let the Peace of God that passes all understanding, enter into our hearts to transform our hearts, souls and minds becoming the men and women of Christ that God would have us be. We have to of our own free will choose this for ourselves. God is not going to choose it for us. He will not force us to take this action. We have to take action and let Him into our hearts.

So, what if we choose not to live our lives God’s Way, but rather our way? The Gospel covers this very subject.  Did you ever notice that weeds normally flourish far above the crop plants?  While they oft succeed in growing taller and quicker, they are not useful.  A wise farmer will let them abide in the field and separate them out at the harvest. God is that wise farmer, who will sift us out before His judgment seat. He knows that there will be folks who may not be receptive right now but will have major events that will change their perspective. If they were cut out of the field before then, the would not make it to heaven for sure. God knows there will be folks like this, that is why He patiently waits for them. The weeds are an allegory to the people who choose not to follow God’s way. They may seem to flourish in the short run, but in the long run they will not prosper. Let this be a lesson for us, lest we might have some misplaced envy of these folks. In the end we will be the happier for choosing to follow God. This is what Jesus is referring to in the Gospel. God is that farmer who will patiently wait until the end days to make that final determination.

Let us not wait for that final determination to note we were on the wrong course all along.  So, while we still have time, let us repent and turn back to Him and give thanks for His mercy! Jesus reminds us that our lives here on earth can be that way.  Those who follow the Prince of this World oft soar in earthly riches far above us, but when their time here is done, their destination is not the same as ours. In the end we shall be soaring high above them in Heaven, while they will be in the Pit.

Follow God’s will and you will do well enough in earthly riches, which are transient in nature, but we will have for …ourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.  (St. Matt. vi. 19, 20)

It is our actions here that count, what we do in response to the eternal life Jesus has given us.  Will we throw it away or use it wisely?

Error is error, wrong is not right.  But, a person’s final destination is up to God, not us. It is not upon us to decide the final destination for people. That is God’s job. But our job is to be good ambassadors for Him, guiding and leading people to Him and not away from Him.

During the journey of life through the time space continuum, we need to do our best to keep ourselves and those around us moving towards God, not away from Him.  The direction is always clear, sometimes we just do not want to read the signs. So, let us trust and turn to God, our infallible navigator, if we will but listen to Him and act upon his instructions we shall navigate through every storm and trial in our lives with the least pain.

If we understand we are less than perfect, actually far less than imperfect, we have a good start.  We need God in our lives to give us direction.  We need His guidance to direct our ACTION.

Read the Bible, find out what He wants you to do, then Do It.  What can you do today to carry out His Will?  There are a multitude of things you can DO to carry out His Will, but the question is, “Will you?”

Fifth Sunday after Epiphany

The Marks of Christ

6 February 2022

Colossians 3:12-17 • Matthew 13:24-30

The Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany.

The Collect.

O

 LORD, we beseech thee to keep thy Church and household continually in thy true religion; that they who do lean only upon the hope of thy heavenly grace may evermore be defended by thy mighty power; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If one takes the time to read of the conversion stories of unbelievers over the ages, you will find a very strong theme of peace.  Not only peace, but forgiveness, love, kindness; all marks of the life of Christ Jesus when he walked the earth so many centuries ago.

So, what does this have to do with us?

We should be exhibiting these very characteristics to the world.  What drew many non-believers to the Christian faith were these marks and characteristics of Christ.

Let us examine these marks of Christ as listed in our Epistle reading for today.

P

UT on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

  1. Calm and forgiving

Notice as St. Paul lists these aspects of a Christian life, he groups them in their similarities.  Mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, the very essence of a life lived without chaos. These traits are missing in today’s age of rage, anger, deceit, and fear.  We need to seek the Word of God daily to find sustenance and courage for our battles with evil in the world.

forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

  1. Forbearance

The concept of forgiving is so hard for us to live. The secular world is constantly reminding us that we should seek revenge, we should hurt those who hurt us, we should destroy those who disagree with us.  All the marks of evil.  When one spends so much time devising ways of revenge and retribution, one will find their lives consumed with hate. Christ’s way was to forgive. Even as he was dying on the Cross he asked God the Father to forgive them for what they were doing to him, Jesus Christ.  Wow, talk about extreme forgiveness!  Would we have been able to ask that of God?

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

  1. Love is to be applied to our lives

The older term ‘charity’ can also be translated as love. Here we read that Paul says we should above all of these characteristics of Christ, we should first and foremost put on love.  After all if we look to the Word we will read: So God loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  (John 3:16)

Talk about ultimate love. God gave his only-begotten Son, to be sacrificed on the Cross, for our salvation.  LOVE.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

  1. Peace

What a wonderful promise. We should be seeking this peace of God. It is one of the “Marks of Christ” that many non-believers witness in true living Christians. It is a mark that is so obvious that many unconverted want that peace.

The world as we know it is so full of chaos, war, conflicts, tumult, and just out and out anger.

As believers we should be a beacon to the lost. They should see our inner peace and so desire that for themselves.  We need to live the gospel, daily.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

  1. Example:

The very Word of Christ will aid us in our daily lives. Giving us wisdom, helping us to teach and show wisdom of character (admonishing) to each other, doing this by psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs[1], singing with grace in your hearts to the LORD.

It is well known music ie songs, help one to learn and remember concepts. Think of the ABC song or times table songs used to teach our letters and numbers.  In the same way we need to sing songs of praise and worship that use the Word of God as the lyrics, therefore we will also commit to memory the very substance of our faith:  God’s Word.

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

  1. Glorifying God

Here at the end of this epistle lesson, we find Paul admonishing us to do ALL for God the Father and God the Son.  “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed…”     Do ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus.  And most especially giving thanks to God the Father by him (Jesus).  We thank God the Father for sending his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Not only did he die, but he also overcame Death by rising again that third day, to every be triumphant over Death and Satan.

Always remember, God is the winner in the battle. He is the Creator and he cannot be overcome.

Let us pray:

T

URN thou us, O good Lord, and so shall we be turned. Be favorable, O Lord, Be favorable to thy people, who turn to thee in weeping, fasting, and praying.  For thou art a merciful God, Full of compassion, long-suffering, and of great pity.  Thou sparest when we deserve punishment, and in thy wrath thinkest upon mercy.  Spare thy people, good Lord. Spare them, and let not thy heritage be brought to confusion.  Hear us, O Lord, for thy mercy is great, and after the multitude of thy mercies look upon us, through the merits and mediation of thy blessed Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen.

T

HE Lord bless us, and keep us; the Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon us, and give us peace now and for evermore.   Amen.

T

HE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore.    Amen.

Rev Bryan Dabney of Saint John’s Sunday Sermon

We are fortunate to have Bryan’s Sunday Sermon.  If you want people to come to The Truth, you have to speak the truth, espouse the truth and live the truth.    This is really a good piece and I commend it to your careful reading.

Fifth Sunday after The Epiphany

In today’s gospel our Lord presented a parable in which he divided people into two categories relative to their spiritual condition. As I am sure you are aware, parables are short stories which contain a moral lesson. Our Lord used them to communicate the truth of God’s word written to those around

him. Sadly, they were not well received and that caused his disciples to question him saying, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? (Matthew 13:10), to which our Lord replied, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. .. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see and shall not perceive, for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them (Matthew 13:11-15)

Returning to our gospel lesson, our Lord presented the parable of the Wheat and Tares (Matthew 13:24-30) wherein he explained that, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. Let them both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Afterward, he supplied the interpretation: He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them that which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear (Matthew 13:37-43).

The wicked of this world are referred to as tares, or weeds. Their product feeds no one and is toxic. They live mainly to serve themselves, yet in so doing they often interfere with the spiritual growth of the good seed. The good seed, on the other hand, produces usable fruit for sustenance and for increased production. While it would seem desirable to remove the tares at their appearing, great care must be exercised so as not to uproot the plants of the good seed. Our Lord’s admonishment of Let both grow together until the harvest makes it clear that only at an appointed time in the future will the wheat be harvested and taken into his barn, while the tares will then be uprooted and cast into the everlasting fires of perdition.

Now a caveat is in order at this point. If we are to qualify as being fruitful grain to be preserved in our Lord’s store, we must be properly fed and nurtured in the truth God’s word written. And therein lies the problem for many Christians today as they have not prepared themselves for our Lord’s service. They might be content to read this parable and say to themselves, “Oh I know I am saved” and “I read my Bible.” They may be able to rattle off one or more of the Ten Commandments and even a few gospel verses; yet when it comes to knowing their particular calling to serve, they waffle back and forth because they are not well versed in the very work which God has given us to improve our understanding and assist us in becoming mature Christians.

Paul’s admonition to Timothy (II Timothy 3:16-17) that, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works makes it clear that in order to be thoroughly furnished as a servant of God, we must read and follow those doctrines and tenets as found in Scripture. We have been called to witness to a sin-darkened world and that means letting our lives be as lighted candles placed upon lampstands. Only by being well-versed in his word written can we be those bright and shining lights which God would have us be in his service, properly radiating the truth which he would have us proclaim in our daily walk and witness.

Every truly regenerated soul in Christ understands that we are engaged in a great spiritual conflict with the forces of darkness which includes not only the Devil and his angels but his human agents as well. These will do their level best to undermine our efforts in God’s service. One of their strategies is to play upon our poor understanding of who is or is not a Christian. So in order to carry out our duties we must be able to identify our enemies as well as our brothers and sisters in Christ. As our Lord advised, Ye shall know them by their fruits (St. Matthew 7:16). Still, in order to recognize friend from foe, we must possess a proper understanding of the Holy Scriptures. We must learn to do things in God’s way thinking and not our own. Human wisdom which does not correspond to Scripture is to be rejected. Only by following those prescriptions which are found within the Holy Bible, will we ever truly be the victorious saints of the Most High God.

As I have preached many times before, it bears repeating that whether we like it or not, we are participants in a great spiritual war with an adversary who gives no quarter and who is intent on taking as many captive as he can. If we are to prevail in this struggle, we must be filled with the Holy Ghost and live that victory which our Lord purchased for us with his most precious blood. Letting your light shine before men is the best way to reveal the faith that is within you. But in order to be successful in this quest, you must live the faith not just tell others of it. Our actions speak louder than our words. Therefore avoid hypocrisy. Keep to the strait gate and the narrow way. Wear continually the whole armor of God and stand fast, occupying till our Lord returns. For if you will do these things you will prove to all that you are wheat and not tares. And finally, on every occasion, give God the glory for the victory which he has wrought for us in Jesus Christ and then live that victory!

Let us pray,

O

 HEAVENLY Father, grant us wisdom and courage to stand and shine forth as children of righteousness bearing the light of the gospel to this sin-darkened world; that others might come to accept our Lord as their Saviour, Redeemer and Friend; and these things we ask in Christ’s holy name. Amen.

Have a blessed week,

People in our Prayers – http://faithfulcenturionprayerteam.blogspot.com/

Why? Prayer is an extremely important activity.

It is not that God knows not our needs, for He surely does. Yet, Jesus commanded us to ask God for those same needs. In addition to the obvious of asking God for help, offering thanksgiving and the like, prayer helps us focus our thoughts on how we might do God’s work.

The Prayer Team of the Anglican Orthodox Church was established to help our members and fellow Christians pray for those in need and to give thanks as well for the blessings we have been granted.

Who can be on the list? Do I have to be a member of the Anglican Orthodox Church to be prayed for?

No! The only qualification to be on the list is that you want our prayer team to pray for you. We are Christians and are happy to pray for you, no matter who you are. If you want help from God, you are our kind of people.

What is the commitment from the prayer team?

Each member of the team will pray for the desired outcome at last once per day.

How do I get myself or someone else on the prayer list?

You can email one of the prayer team leaders: Jack – jack@faithfulcenturion.org or Dru – dru@ faithfulcenturion.org, or call the office at (619) 659-3608 or fill out a prayer card at your church.

What should I ask for?

Depends on what you want. Some people merely want God to be asked to heal their ills and be mentioned by their first name, others want a specific outcome and / or have more of their personal information known to the team. Ask for what you want. It is your desire and need for prayer the team is attempting to meet. For typical examples, see the list below.

Updating the Team

If you are on our prayer list, or if you have submitted a person that you have asked us to pray for, please update one of the team members or Hap in person, by telephone or email. It helps to be able to pray specifically for these individuals including their specific needs; plus if they get better, it is our happy duty to give thanks!

Please note that on the yellow (maybe green or orange if you get an old one) cards at church, you can ask that those to be prayed for have their names disseminated to the prayer team. Those names will be said in church and appear here. Or, you can ask that their names and purpose be kept confidential, then only Hap will know to pray for them.

Prayer List Notice – If you have someone on the prayer list and their needs have changed, please let us know.  We’d like to update our prayers to reflect the need and most important to give thanks!

Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Healthy plasma cells help you fight infections by making antibodies that recognize and attack germs. In multiple myeloma, cancerous plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow and crowd out healthy blood cells

While there is no cure for multiple myeloma, the cancer can be managed successfully in many patients for years; the average life expectancy is 4 years. However, some people beat the odds and live 10 to 20 years or more.

The most common cause of death related to multiple myeloma is infection, with pneumonia being the most common fatal infection. Other common causes of death are bleeding (from low platelet counts), complications of bone fractures, kidney failure, and blood clots in the lungs.

For Our Country

Our country has lost its way.  Over half the people that vote, voted for a government that promises them things it cannot deliver in return for their souls which it can, will and does take.  Our foreign policy backs the rise of Islam, we turn our backs on those who would follow God and arm those who murder them.  Pray God will raise up a leader from among the people who can turn the country’s course 180° and attempt to come back to God.  Pray the people will recognize that they are headed down a smooth wide road into the pit, a road that will get smoother and smoother, steeper and steeper until the only possible way is down.  Down, into the depths of the pit.  Pray people will recognize there is:

  • One True and Triune God who is goodness in and of Himself;
  • All religions are not equal;
  • All ways of life are not equal;
  • The Bible holds the Key to Life;
  • All rights come from God, not the State;
  • Good;
  • Bad;
  • Evil;
  • Right;
  • Wrong;
  • Allah is the Devil;
  • Abortion is no more than sacrifice of children to Baal.

Pray this recognition will not come too late.  Pray we will, each of us, do our duty to God, Country and Family, putting His Honor above all.
